Our Mission: 826 Seattle is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center dedicated to helping youth, ages 6 to 18, improve their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. At 826 Seattle, we believe significant learning happens with individual attention and that strong writing skills are essential for future success.

Lana Sanderson

Lana Sanderson is the definition of an 826 Seattle tutoring stalwart. Since she came to us in 2009, not only has she been a dedicated Tuesday after-school tutor, she has also been the co-leader of one of 826 Seattle's most popular writing clubs--the Pen Pal Club, in which students write letters back and forth with senior pen pals who live in the nearby University House retirement home. Lana dutifully ferries the letters back and forth, assiduously catalogs all the correspondence, and helps young students in a digital age discover a love for thoughful, unhurried writing through the simple process of weekly letter-writing.

Lana has also taught summer writing workshops and is a champion dancer and fundraiser as part of her "Roto Tutors" 826 Seattle Dance Your Cash Off dance team. In short, Lana is a treasure and we are lucky to have her in our volunteer ranks!
