Since coming to Seattle from her native Texas in the fall, Katie has used her background as an English teacher to help 826 Seattle in countless ways.
What's an average Monday afternoon look like for Katie? From 3-6 she comes to after school tutoring to help elementary school students finish their homework, wins a monster-drawing contest during game time, downs a Clif Bar, and then she stays for another two hours to work with students during our high-school-only evening tutoring program. Some weeks she spends time working on in-schools projects (writing character vignettes or embracing bilingualism in the 21st century). Oh, and did we mention she raises her hand whenever there's a need for extra store shifts, publishing projects, or back office help?
Our world is a better place with you in it, Katie. Thank you for all you do! Texas' loss is our gain!
