2007 October Breakfast Fundraiser is a Huge Success
By Alex Allred

Fun at a fundraising breakfast? Here at 826 Seattle we dare to dream the impossible. Our first fundraising breakfast was early in the morning on October 31, 2006 – we showed our silent movie, A Trip to 826 Seattle, Nancy Pearl talked about her favorite reads when she was a girl, and checks were written totaling over $32,000. The overwhelming consensus was that it was fun and we knew we had set the bar pretty high.

This year, at Bell Harbor on the Seattle Waterfront, about 200 guests joined us for our second annual breakfast. Our emcee was John Moe and, of course, we had a new movie to premiere; this time it was called, 826 Seattle Goes to Mars. Workshop and drop-in students (and stars of the movie) David and Daniel spoke about the great things they’ve done at 826 Seattle. Michael Lewis (The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, Moneyball) spoke about how just one person’s love can lift a child up and change a life. Believe it or not, we managed to raise the bar even higher: over $50,000 was raised and, yes, a good time was had by all.

David and Daniel were fantastic spokesmen for our programs. They are shining examples of why we do what we do.
