Our Mission: 826 Seattle is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center dedicated to helping youth, ages 6 to 18, improve their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. At 826 Seattle, we believe significant learning happens with individual attention and that strong writing skills are essential for future success.

People Eating and Giving

Mia Ellis
Mia Ellis joined our board in January 2011 and so wowed us with her wit, wisdom and general board acumen that at the next opportunity we elected her to be the Chair of the 826 Seattle Board of Directors. We met Mia when she was the founding Executive Director for Summer Search Seattle. Mia and her husband Todd have two young daughters … with a third on the way.
826 Seattle: Hi, Mia. We have a lot of favorite things about you, but what is your favorite thing about 826 Seattle?
Mia: I especially love the people that come together to create the community of 826 Seattle- visionary, quirky, funny, creative, and open to new ideas. It's so refreshing to be a part of the effort. I also love the after school tutoring Songwriting Club!
826 Seattle: Do you have a favorite space travel supply?
Mia: I got this pretty cool little "PANIC" button that I keep pushing when life feels overwhelming. I'm not sure how it works, but I do seem to get a sense of calm from pushing it over and over and over again. Also, my kids have both sported pretty cool GSTS onesies and t-shirts and they are awfully sharp!
