Youth Advisory Board
Our Youth Advisory Board is composed of Seattle students who help shape our workshop topics, disseminate information about 826 Seattle to their peers and neighborhoods, and get together for an occasional pizza.
If you’re interested in joining the group, please email us at info@826seattle.org.
Youth Advisors
Tawny Case, Ingraham High School. When she’s not pressing her nose to the IB grindstone, Tawny Case can be found chillin’ with a good book, writing secretive notes in tiny handwriting, laughing hysterically amidst a gang of giggly schoolgirls, tapping her chin contemplatively, or doing a silly dance to some awesome beats.
Claire England, The Center School. Claire is a senior at the Center School. She plays keyboard in 826’s unofficial house band Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head which has played at both the 826 Seattle Grand Opening and 1 Year Birthday Party. Of course, she likes to write.
Rose Fredricks, Running Start. Rose is a native Seattleite, she’s seventeen and is a full-time Running Start student at Shoreline Community College. She loves music, cooking, reading, math, and shoes. She has a puggle named Simon.
Michael Litven, The Center School. Michael Litven on birds: “Peregrine falcons sometimes eat pigeons. They’ll dive-bomb them at like, 200 mph and curl their talons into little bird-fists and punch them in the face. Then, as the KO’d pigeon falls, the peregrine falcon will swoop down and catch it, and break its neck with its beak.”
Aisha Mesgaert, Ingraham High School. Aisha is the product of English Imperialism and a crazy hippie mother. When she is not spending time wading through swamps of I.B. homework, she is immersed in the intricacies of Elizabethan costume or with her mother at a lecture on your Individual Power to be infinitely happy.
Max Nicolai IV, Northwest School. Max is in his freshman year at what is apparently the Northwest School of Arts and Humanities. There is nothing he enjoys more than music played unreasonably loudly, far too many energy drinks, and a nice piece of cheese on a cracker for his breakfast.
Youth Advisory Board Spirit Guides

Elizabeth Cole Duffell wishes she could have come to 826 Seattle when she was in high school. Instead, she lives vicariously through the YAB and volunteers in multiple capacities for 826 like for example planning concerts with Harry and the Potters and co-teaching workshops on movie-making and poetry-writing and also sitting on the other 826 board where she gets to do fun stuff like look at financial reports and ask people for money.
Brian Enriquez is an aboriginal zeppelin zip lining gummi bear on tonic water, bubbling up from Atlantis like surfacing hush puppie donut batter. Or, a clearing for INVENTION presence and ALACRITY, the CEO for GONZO Creative Media and fan of the Almighty Oakland A’s
“A lot of times I’ll come to 826 even though I don’t have homework I actually need help with. That probably says something. They used to give me pizza, they don’t anymore, but I still go. That says something, too.”
— Claire, 11th Grade, Center School
